2. What is your favorite novel? Pride and Prejudice. My favorite nonfiction would probably be Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. 3. Do you have a favorite poem? (Share it!) I'm not much into poetry, but I like Baudelaire's L'Invitation au Voyage, and there was a poem that I liked by Yeats called Brown Penny, in which the guy describes himself as being "looped in the loops of her hair." Aha! found it: Brown Penny 4. What is one thing you've always wanted to read, or wish you had more time to read? The Terry Pratchett Discworld series, and too many others to list. 5. What are you currently reading? A Girl Named Zippy, for a book discussion group. Thursday, February 27, 2003
James told me that he "might" stop by and see me after work, but stressed that he really had to get home and get everything together for tonight's gaming session, so it seemed like he probably wouldn't make it. Well, when five o'clock rolled around, my boss told me that I could go ahead and leave, since I had come in early. I hesitated, thinking about James coming by, but thought, "Surely he would have been here by now..." And I was REALLY ready to get out of there and start my long weekend, so I left. I called James' answering machine and left a message -- getting a bad feeling when he didn't answer...he should have been home by that time. And, of course, he showed up at my work minutes later...with flowers and a balloon and a teddy bear, because Saturday's my birthday. Damn! So, I'm cruising down the road, and James calls, asking me where I'm at. I explain to him that I got to leave early, and I figured that he wasn't coming since it was so late, etc. He's obviously put out, but at this point, I don't know about the flowers and the teddy bear and the balloon... About a half-hour later when I'm at dinner with Todd, I get a text message on my phone telling me about the surprise...I felt like such a heel. Now, I'm here blogging when I should be doing homework, and James is gaming at a friend's house... *sigh* Monday, February 24, 2003

2. What item, that you currently own, have you had the longest? I have several items from my childhood, such as a stuffed rabbit given to me by my mother's godmother when I was born. 3. Are you a packrat? Yes. I get it from my dad, who is a major packrat, but I'm trying to accumulate and keep less stuff. 4. Do you prefer a spic-and-span clean house? Or is some clutter necessary to avoid the appearance of a museum? Clean is preferable, but I hate it when a place is so perfect that you feel uncomfortable. 5. Do the rooms in your house have a theme? Or is it a mixture of knick-knacks here and there? My apartment has two rooms -- the themes would be messy and messier. I just have stuff everywhere. Having one of my little bouts of insomnia, so I'm online instead of in bed. I don't think that I really have insomnia, it's just that sometimes my mind gets so busy and preoccupied with something, that I find sleeping impossible. Our blissful, snowbound, long weekend is drawing to a close, and I don't want it to end... *sigh* Well, back to bed to try to sleep a bit before getting up at 6. Monday, February 17, 2003

Blogging this morning from James' house. We had a sort of an ice storm last night; church was cancelled this morning, and the cars are frozen shut, covered in a sheet of ice. Good thing neither of us have to be anywhere until Tuesday morning. Friday, February 14, 2003
James and I are going to see Die Another Day tonight, so I will be spending the evening with my two favorite Jameses... I still don't have a current pic of James, so his senior high school year book photo will have to do. He looks pretty much the same, just add glasses and a moustache, and imagine shorter hair. (I'm going to be in so much trouble for this...heeheehee) Wednesday, February 12, 2003
I have a lot of homework to do tonight, and I have to get it done, because I'm spending the evening with James tomorrow night. I don't want these assignments hanging over me, and bothering me all weekend. We had our first meeting about the adult summer reading program this morning. The childrens' librarians had chosen dogs as their theme. We don't have to do the same theme as them, but we usually do, or at least try to relate our theme to theirs somehow. I was going to suggest doing pets, which would complement the dog theme, but be more inclusive. Everyone else was all about the dog theme though, so dogs it is. Grrrrr. Tuesday, February 11, 2003
Lara, a girl that James works with that I met at the nightclub, is telling people that I look like Velma from Scooby Doo... The other night, when we were at the club, I kept noticing this guy staring at me whenever I walked by him. I had my glasses off, so I didn't get a good look at his face, but he had a really distinctive patterned shirt on, so I knew that it was the same guy. Finally, as we were leaving, I saw him for the first time with my glasses on -- he is a student at the university, and I see him in the library pretty much every time I work. He turned and saw me, and I wish that I could have a picture of the look on his face as he realized, "Oh my god! That's the librarian!" Monday, February 10, 2003
Is it just me, or do other people feel like roses (esp. red) are kind of trite and cliche? I especially don't care for the sort of roses that you get from the florist -- they have been genetically engineered to be perfectly formed, but don't even have a scent anymore. Personally, I like wildflowers and stuff like that much better. Qu'est-ce que tu t'en pense?
My friend Rhonda and I went to see How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days last night. It was hysterical! Kate Hudson is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. Having lunch with James today. Sunday, February 09, 2003
Okay, so I met James at Rocky last week. We've been exchanging emails, and talking on the phone ever since. We had dinner Thursday night, and went dancing last night. Several differences have come up which made me think, "This is not going to work," but the more I time I spend with him, the more I like him. What are the differences? He is in favor of the war -- I'm very much against it. He calls himself a "progressive conservative" -- I was once called a "pinko commie." He has guns -- I'm all about gun control. He has a rather large dog -- big dogs scare me. He doesn't like cats -- I love cats. He is a "born-again Christian" -- I'm a Unitarian Universalist, and not a Christian. He has said some things that would indicate some degree of homophobia -- I am a fag hag. Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. What's a girl to do? Friday, February 07, 2003
James and I talked on the phone for three hours this evening. Thursday, February 06, 2003

James, the guy from Rocky, sent me an email Sunday asking me if I wanted to go to Funny Bone on Wednesday to see Raven, a hypnotist. I would have liked to go, I really dig Raven, but that's my evening to work late. While I was writing him back, he came in and requested an audiobook. Since his library card was at least five years old, and he had been deleted from the computer, it's pretty safe to say that he does not frequently visit the library... ; ) How concerned should I be that this is the book that he wanted? On a happier note, I got a response from the Emode guy that I emailed. Whenever I take Emode tests, this guy keeps coming up as a possible match. Taking his username, I sussed out his email address and contacted him. It took a while, but he finally got back to me, and so we will see where that goes. |
